An Introduction to Traditional Finger Weaving

Join Mechtild Morin on June 11th at lelem’ Arts and Cultural Cafe for an introduction to traditional finger weaving, from 10:00 AM – 4:30 PM.

Mechtild has done a lot of research, collected old photos, songs, stories and facts. She was fortunate to learn some of the traditional crafts, such as leatherwork, beading, embroidery and most of all the traditional style of sash weaving (finger weaving) from local traditional artisans.

Mechtild has been doing weaving workshops since 2000. These workshops have taken place in classrooms, kitchens and outdoors, at Métis Celebrations, Family Reunions, Folk Festivals and events at Museums and Art Galleries. Workshop participants have been children, youths, and adults. It gives her great joy and honour to continue sharing the “Métis Story” with anyone who is interested.
