First Nations Interpretive Paddle: Explore the cultural wonders of the Shi`sha`lh First Nation territories by kayak. The Shishalh people have lived in this area for thousands of years. Your local Shishalh guides will take you on a kayaking journey through time. Learn about our ancestors’ way of life and take in the stunning views of the Sunshine Coast shoreline.
Each tour begins with an introduction to kayak safety procedures to keep you safe on your journey. Paddling through the calm waters you will notice that each point or inlet offers its own unique story and legend. This region is rich in marine life and there is always a chance of seeing seals, otters, sea stars, sea cucumbers, eelgrass and much more.
This tour is offered as a short tour (3.5hrs), full tour (5-6hrs) or extended tour (2nights/3days). The extended tour visits historical campsites and marine parks and exploration of Kunechin Point and Tzoonie Narrows.
Hiking and Walks
Talking Trees Experience: Listen to the legends each tree has to tell throughout Porpoise Bay Provincial Park. A local First Nations guide will take you on a walking journey through time to learn about ecology of the forest and take part in tales and traditions passed down from our ancestors who lived in the same village centuries ago. Along the way, your guide will point out local plants that were harvested for traditional medicine and food use.
Stanley Park Talking Trees Tour: Stanley Park, a cultural mecca and ecological wonder right in the heart of Vancouver is the perfect place to enjoy a First Nations interpretive tour. Guests learn the many stories of the region as well as the intimate cultural and scientific knowledge of the Northwest Coast trees and plants. The 2km walk is low to moderate in effort and includes several stops to provide interpretation and stories. The tour is offered daily from May to October.
