Aboriginal Tourism BC heads to Shenyang, China for Showcase Canada – Asia

Posted on October 10, 2014

AtBC’s CEO, Keith Henry and Travel Trade Specialist, Dana Schoahs will be travelling to Shenyang, China to attend the Showcase Canada  – Asia event.

Showcase Canada-Asia is one of CTC’s top international marketplaces outside Canada. In 2014, it will take place at the Shangri-La Hotel in Shenyang, China, Oct. 19-24. The Showcase provides Canadian industry sellers with a fabulous opportunity to learn about the Asian travel market while sealing deals and networking. Alongside the buyers from mainland China and South Korea will be new additions for 2014 from Hong Kong and Taiwan, as well as key travel agents from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. The Showcase will open with market briefings from CTC reps before moving on to intense pre-scheduled meetings.

Right now, China is the world’s second-largest economy after the US, and it also has the fastest- growing economy on the globe. From 2002 to 2011, Chinese travel to Canada grew 150 per cent – from 95,000 to 237,000 overnight arrivals – and in 2010 the Chinese government granted Canada Approved Destination Status (ADS). Chinese travellers are showing more interest in Canada (the CTC forecasts a steady increase in overnight arrivals in the coming years), and knowledge of Canada’s travel experiences continues to grow and is linked to the increase in the independent travel segment (FIT), as well as luxury travellers – which is a market we want to specifically target. So, this is a vital tradeshow for developing awareness and promoting British Columbia’s Aboriginal travel experiences.

During Showcase, AtBC will be meeting with 96 travel trade partners from China and other markets in Asia.
