Rendez-vous Canada 2014 Pre Fam Tour – Haida Gwaii

Posted on June 10, 2014

Joëlle Rabu, Manager at Haida House at Tllaal, hosted a Rendez-vous Canada Pre Fam tour at the end of May. She sent me a great note about the experience, which is written below.

Thanks for being such a great host Joëlle!

A successful Fam Tour wrapped up at the Haida House at Tllaal on Haida Gwaii on May 26th.  Guests were treated to several highlights during their 3 night stay including: a sunny picnic lunch at Agate Beach in Masset upon arrival; a special story-telling performance by Kung Jaadaa; an exciting albeit rain-drenched Zodiac trip to Chaatl Island home of the famed Mosquito Pole on the wild west side of Haida Gwaii with Haida Style Excursions topped by a salmon BBQ on the beach (the guests were troopers!); a Haida Feast at Keenawii’s Kitchen in Skidegate; an interpretive nature hike through lush forest to the famed Golden Spruce in Port Clements; lunch in the home of the amazing Haida weaver Joyce Bennett; a visit to Ben Davidson’s gallery witnessing his work on a new pole heading to an Edmonton hospital foundation; a private tour of the Kaay Llanagaay Heritage Centre with the Haida House’s cultural guide Aye Aye Hans. A crab feast topped off the final night at the Haida House with laughter, gifts, songs…the guests were ready to head to Rendezvous in Vancouver after a whirlwind trip of Haida Gwaii, experiencing culture, art, nature and the foibles of Mother Nature’s weather pattern!  Handshakes on the way in, hugs on the way out! Haaw’a to AtBC and Northern BC Tourism for their magnificent support!
