Traditionally, Indigenous-made products and services have a very short supply chain. Straight from the land or local hands, Indigenous economies are grown in their traditional territories. With emphasis on hyperlocal human and natural resources, First Nations communities have prioritized environmental care and local growth since time immemorial.

Indigenous gross domestic income is increasing faster than the national economy–even with infrastructure challenges faced by First Nations in Canada and the ability to leverage their lands for loans.

Participation in the thriving BC tourism industry by First Nations, Inuit, and Metis Peoples includes businesses in accommodations, food and beverage services, recreation and entertainment, transportation, and travel services.

It is estimated that tourism supports 1 of every 15 jobs in Canada, which means the potential contribution of Indigenous Peoples to the Canadian economy makes investing in Indigenous businesses an investment in all Canadians.

Indigenous tourism at its highest level is well-being for all.

At its heart are health, community, prosperity, and the environment.

Indigenous Tourism BC (ITBC) is helping shape future tourism into a powerful tool for cultural revival, environmental stewardship, and economic empowerment.
