National Indigenous History Month

June 1st marks the beginning of a month designated by Canada for all Canadians to honour the cultures and contributions of First Nations, Métis, Inuit, and all Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

June is a month-long celebration–a time for all to honour the vitality, success, and beauty of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis cultures and communities in Canada, and all Indigenous Peoples worldwide. As Indigenous Peoples, we celebrate ourselves, our families, communities, lands, and cultures daily.

Celebrate Indigenous BC

Indigenous Peoples in BC lead the way in stewardship, collaboration, self-determination, and storytelling.

Give thanks for another year on the land with each other and share in our celebration of the many Indigenous successes of the past year–in law, art, land protection, business, and governance.

You are Invited

To Celebrate National Indigenous History Month

Broaden your knowledge and experience of Indigenous leadership, language, art, ecology, literature, values, lands, economy, wisdom, and innovation. Celebrate Indigenous scholars, leaders, musicians, poets, painters, athletes, inventors, scientists, designers, and thinkers.

National Indigenous Peoples Day: June 21

Attend local events and learning opportunities that bring us all together–and closer to the gift that is understanding each other.

National Indigenous Peoples Day is June 21 and coincides with the summer solstice and the beginning of a season of berry picking and fishing, powwows, and gatherings for the diverse Indigenous Peoples in Canada. Traditionally, there are significant gatherings in communities all across BC–parades, dancing, music, festivals, and food.

Take time with your family, friends, and community to connect to the land,  learn about Indigenous Peoples from Indigenous Peoples, and explore Indigenous experiences and offerings.

There are many ways to celebrate

On National Indigenous Peoples Day, we also celebrate you for joining in celebrating First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples’ innovation, excellence, cultures, and histories.
