Manager of Tourism Development

Position Summary
The Manager of Tourism Development is responsible for the leadership and growth of NEDC’s tourism operations. This includes the day-to-day management of the Snaw Naw As RV & Cabins, oversight of marketing and brand development across NEDC’s tourism portfolio, and collaboration on new product development such as cultural tourism and agritourism opportunities.
The ideal candidate brings a blend of operational excellence, financial acumen, marketing creativity, and an understanding of tourism within an Indigenous or community-based economic development context.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage operations of Snaw Naw As RV & Cabins, including reservations, guest services, maintenance, and staff supervision.
- Lead the development and implementation of a Tourism Development Strategy for NEDC, identifying growth opportunities in eco-tourism, cultural tourism, and agritourism.
- Oversee and support marketing and communications for tourism properties and initiatives, ensuring consistent brand identity and messaging.
- Collaborate with community, regional tourism organizations, and partners to promote Snaw-Naw-As as a destination.
- Manage budgets, prepare financial reports, and coordinate with the NEDC Controller on accounting and HR processes.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate staff and seasonal employees.
- Develop and implement high standards for guest experience, customer service, and cultural integrity.
- Support the planning and execution of capital improvements and facility upgrades.
- Report regularly to the CEO on performance metrics, growth opportunities, and tourism initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of management experience in the tourism, hospitality, or resort industry (required).
- Demonstrated skills in marketing, accounting, HR management, and business development.
- Proven experience in destination or resort marketing, community tourism, or related fields.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Proficiency in reservation systems, Microsoft Office, and digital marketing tools.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings during the tourism season.
Preferred Assets:
- Understanding of, or experience working within, an Indigenous environment or community-owned business.
- Experience developing or managing Indigenous or cultural tourism programs.
- Knowledge of Vancouver Island tourism networks, partnerships, and funding programs.
- Familiarity with environmental sustainability and eco-tourism practices.
