We recognize the vital role partnerships with the broader tourism industry play in advancing the presence of First Nations and Indigenous tourism businesses across the sector. Through collaboration with non-Indigenous organizations and businesses, ITBC bridges gaps, removes barriers, and supports the sustainable growth of Indigenous tourism in British Columbia. These relationships are key to building a more inclusive industry that benefits First Nations and Indigenous communities, partners, and visitors.

The Friends of ITBC Program
This program deepens ITBC’s partnerships with the broader tourism industry by offering non-Indigenous organizations meaningful ways to support Indigenous tourism through financial or in-kind contributions. These collaborations help provide critical resources to Indigenous businesses, fuelling growth and removing operational barriers. With a tiered structure—Salmon, Wolf, Bear, and Eagle—the program offers varying levels of engagement, including co-branding and cooperative marketing opportunities. It ultimately supports economic sovereignty for First Nations and Indigenous communities while advancing collaborative efforts toward Truth and Reconciliation and sustainable tourism development.

Collaboration with Native Education College (NEC)
ITBC partners with the Native Education College (NEC) to offer Indigenous tourism training programs. NEC provides a culturally supportive environment for Indigenous learners, helping them achieve their educational goals while honouring their cultural values. This collaboration prepares Indigenous graduates for meaningful roles in the tourism industry, fostering a skilled workforce that reflects and promotes Indigenous culture.
