The lodge, built in the 1980’s, was known as the Tlell River House and for years operated as a seasonal bear hunting lodge. In 1995, the Council of the Haida Nation passed a resolution at their Annual House of Assembly calling for the end of recreational trophy hunting of Black Bears on the Islands. By 2010, the Haida Nation succeeded in retiring the last remaining bear hunting licence and purchased the lodge, renaming it the Haida House at Tllaal. (Tllaal is the traditional Haida spelling of Tlell). As of June of 2012, the Haida House will re-open its doors and welcome visitors from around the world who seek a comfortable base from which to explore the exceptional culture and nature of Haida Gwaii.

Haida House at Tllaal is proud to now offer an 800 square foot meeting room, know at the Xaayda Gud Ad Is Naay room- Haida for Gathering Place. This room boasts a wonderfully high ceiling, allowing in plenty of natural light, and a wrap-around outdoor overhang which overlooks the forested property on one side, and the tidal river on the other. The Xaayda Gud Ad Is Naay is perfect for small conferences, large meetings, reunions, weddings, yoga classes, and much more! Email us for more information.

Our dining menu features a variety of distinctive appetizers, fresh seafood, local seasonal vegetables, decadent desserts; all prepared with the utmost dedication. An ever-changing Table D’hôtel menu is provided on special occasions, where our chef creates a unique seasonal meal with an accent on traditional Haida foods.

The lodge is conveniently located on the east coast of Graham Island near the village of Tlell, halfway between Masset in the north and Queen Charlotte in the south. The Haida House is the ideal base from which to enjoy the many adventures, attractions, excursions and historical and cultural sites available on both Graham and Moresby Islands. The Haida House is committed to providing our guests with first-class service, while preserving the legacy to future Haida generations, respecting nature and cherishing the traditions of our elders.
