In 2022-2023, Indigenous Tourism BC celebrated its 25th year of collaborative work with partners. With almost three decades of consistent growth as an organization, our roots are firm. Our tree is solid and growing stronger; its branches are reaching further than ever with a commitment to renewed partnerships, organizational structure and focus, and funding to increase Indigenous Peoples’ well-being through the BC tourism industry.
In 2021-2022, Indigenous Tourism BC continued our collaborative work with partners to ensure existing and interested stakeholders were engaged and supported during the first steps of recovery from COVID-19. We mourned with Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians at the findings at residential institutions across Canada. We sat in reflection on the first Canada Day that followed a new national awareness of the uncomfortable truths long held by Indigenous communities in Canada.
This year, ITBC has worked hard with Stakeholders to ensure they access as many resources as possible to keep their businesses going. In a crisis, people look for something stable, something consistent. Our Indigenous voice has always been here, and while we respond and innovate to our environment, our values are unchanged: stewardship, community, family, and safety.
Industries and businesses are powered by people, and we are resilient. On behalf of the 401 tourism businesses and 7,400 people they employ, we would like to offer our sincerest thanks and gratitude to the staff at ITBC and the entire tourism industry network in BC and across Canada who did not buckle in the face of this overwhelming challenge.

As AtBC celebrates its 20th Anniversary, we want to recognize the incredible gathering of Aboriginal visionaries and entrepreneurs who have helped Aboriginal communities reconnect with their culture and carved a path for a new generation of strong and proud business leaders.
The past year has been very positive for AtBC, as we were able to focus on activities and align efforts to provide a better return on investment for our Stakeholders and Aboriginal tourism businesses.
It is a very important task to represent, support, and guide Aboriginal entrepreneurs and Aboriginal communities to deliver the benefits of authentic, sustainable tourism development and economic impact. At a time when Aboriginal cultural tourism is showing its growing significance as the fastest-growing tourism sector in BC, AtBC is demonstrating its strengths in implementing strategic marketing efforts, building positive awareness, and supporting product development planning.
