Indigenous agritourism connects visitors to the land through experiences rooted in traditional ecological knowledge — guided harvests, medicine walks, fishing camps, and working farms that have sustained communities for generations. In B.C., these enterprises allow Nations and Indigenous tourism operators to share their deep relationship with the land while building sustainable, community-controlled livelihoods.

• Federal Pathfinder: Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) is offering the Indigenous Pathfinder Service. A one-stop shop for advice and referral to help navigate the relevant information, tools and support available to start or expand activities in the agriculture and agri-food sector. The service strives to ensure you do not miss out on support and other business opportunities available.
• Provincial Pathfinder: B.C. Indigenous Pathfinder Service is a single source for support and referral to help navigate the relevant information, tools and funding available to start or expand activities in the following areas: Indigenous food systems, Food sovereignty, Food security, Agriculture and the food sector. Staff provide provincial wayfinding services and program referrals

• First Nations Agriculture Association (FNAA) assists in the start-up promotion and sustainability of Aboriginal agri-businesses with advocacy, training, and resources. 
• BC Association of Farmers’ Markets is committed to developing and strengthening the capacity of farmers’ markets in all regions of BC.

• Small to medium-sized scale greenhouse solutions for Indigenous communities For Indigenous communities, greenhouse farming can be a powerful tool in reclaiming and revitalizing food sovereignty. These resources were created by Indigenous people, for Indigenous communities to support those growing food to nourish their people through sharing, trading, or selling.

How are First Nations and Indigenous agriculture and foods working with the Province? 

The BC Indigenous Advisory Council on Agriculture and Food (IACAF) collaborates through a council of Indigenous agriculture, foods and cultural knowledge keepers to support the realization of Indigenous peoples’ food security, food sovereignty, and economic development objectives with the Province of BC. The BC Agriculture Council is the lead industry-advocate for the agricultural and farming sector in BC.

Agriculture and Food Skills Training

BC Indigenous Food Systems & Agriculture Skills & Training – A multi-year program under the Agriculture and Food Workforce Development Initiative (AWDI) designed to support BC’s agriculture industry to provide a stable and increasing food supply through targeted efforts to recruit and retain a sufficient workforce to meet the labour needs of the industry.
